You just purchased a cellular phone and are trying to determine to which cell phone company you will give your business. When you contacted the Talks-A-Lot Company, they were offering a monthly plan of $40 for 600 minutes and $0.35 for each minute exceeding the 600 minutes. In the Sunday paper you see an ad for the Chat-Away Company, which offers a monthly plan of $50 for 600 minutes and $0.10 for each minute exceeding the 600 minutes. How many minutes would you have to talk over and above the 600 minutes for the cost to be the same with both companies? What would be the equal cost?

Set up a linear system consisting of two equations. Assume you will talk for a minimum of 600 minutes. The first equation would be for the Talks-A-Lot Company. The total cost, y, equals the base fee plus cost per minute times the number of minutes exceeding 600 minutes. The second equation would be set up just like the first, only you need to use the information for the Chat-Away Company.

Solve the linear system using the substitution method. Please make sure to solve for both x and y. Show all work.

Answer the questions, using complete sentences.
How many minutes would you have to talk over and above the 600 minutes for the cost to be the same with both companies?
What would be the cost when the minutes are the same?

If you plan to talk for 1000 minutes, which company should you hire? Please show your total cost for both companies to prove your answer.

I’ve always had a regular phone because my mom payed my home before with my 3G iPhone and I went over by a little on the plan , I didn’t know which one I had though . she paid it and kicked me off since I was out of two years . my dad got me a iPhone 4 starting with him an then I got a regular phone from those prepaid little packages to use I just a iPhone 4 to keep a upgrade because one day I might get it activated . now is the time today I’m going to AT&T to get the 200MB plan for my iPhone 4 . I’m going to get a microsomes and everything all set up . I don’t use Internet all as much anymore and in responsible , but if I turn cellular data off in the settings and use it just when I need it , I won’t get notifications from other apps . problem is does it use a lot of data always checking the whether on the pull down bar and getting data from app . I don’t have a Facebook anymore due to personal reasons . just asking how much is 200MB ? And how to stay under and not go over on the bill , ever . or my phone will get shut off .

I am going to nursing school in the fall and am planning to get an iPad mainly for the sake of school. Is the iPad with a cellular network really worth the extra money? I was going to use it alongside a regular HP laptop and my iPhone 4s. I am thinking that the school and hospital will have all the wifi I need but I don’t know how convenient it’d be if I were to bring it other places. Is it more worth it to just do the tethering thing on my phone to make it a portable hotspot?

Open Question: I know I’m asking again and again. it’s long..no one is answering :( PLEASE HELP. Will answer yours?

ok so my ex used to like this girl before we started going out but she had rejected him and acted like a *****. she was his best friend and their friendship got ruined as well. we were together for an year until something happened and they started talking again. it was initally on facebook inbox. i knew his password, he knew mine. i saw that they had started talking again (it was a normal convo) but wasn’t liking it so i told him it hurt me. he told me that we both should change our passwords so that instead of spying on each other, we can build trust. he admitted that when he used to log into my account, he used to see texts from other guys and he used to feel bad even though he knew I loved him but he never told me cuz he didn’t want my friendship to get ruined. i was fine with it. i changed my password too. he continued talking to her on the inbox.
later she commented on his pic, he liked her status, she posted on his wall. it wasn’t anything flirty but he knew i used to hate it and i got jealous. he told me she had apologised to him for being a ***** last year and he said he had forgiven her cuz his hatred for her had gone as he had started loving me a lot. it wasn’t anything flirty but the fact that he kept commenting even when he knew i hated it killed me. he used to reassure me..i had told him 3-5 times that it bothered me but he didn’t stop. recently his mood hadn’t been good cuz he hadn’t done well in an important exam and i used to comfort him. so one day i sent him a text to cheer up his mood (he said his cell would be with his dad)..so i knew he wouldn’t reply. later i saw that he hadn’t replied to my text but he had commented on her pic (see it wasn’t anything flirty but i was possessive) and he had deleted the activity from his profile. i mean he had the time to login to facebook, comment on her pic but didn’t have time to reply to me. i got mad and told him to call (he called me instantly..he had his phone cuz his mom wasn’t there). we argued and he told me he had deleted it cuz he knew i felt bad..then i accused him of seeing her pics everytime he logged in (the pic he had commented on was old). he got mad too and said he didn’t have to give me an explanation and kept the phone on my face. later i broke up with him on text. i apologised after 2 days but he wasn’t talking to anyone and he didn’t even reply to my texts. i had literally begged him to talk to me. when i apologised face to face, he said “(my name) it’s over..don’t bug me”. after that we didn’t talk for a week and when i saw him i acted like i don’t care.

later i texted him asking him if we could be friends and he said even he didn’t want us to act like strangers and after that i asked him to tell me why he didn’t give me a closure and he said it was cuz i didn’t trust him. he said that he understood my insecurity but he thought i would get used to it and i didn’t and went ahead and did something which killed what he had for me. he went on to say that ppl who know him well trust him blindly and if i knew him well i should’ve known that he wouldn’t leave me cuz of other girl. then he said he had nothing against me and still considered me a friend..but he said that he knew if we continued to be friends, i would suffer so it would be better if i cut off from him, to get over him..

the next day i saw him and decided to talk one last time and he said that i was the one who left him and i told him that even though i did break up, i have been running after him and apologising to him..then he said he can’t be with someone who doesn’t trust him. then he told me that i acted like i don’t give a ****, so why should he give a ****. he told my possessiveness had been troubling him since a long time. i told him i was ready to change but he told me to stick to my decision cuz even though it wasn’t easy for him, he had accepted it. i told him abt things which showed i care but he wasn’t ready to budge from his decision. and he told me to stick to my decision like 10 times and told me not to beg and keep my ego.

It’s time to move on, I know but the other girl still keeps posting on his wall and he still likes her pictures. I know they are talking and maybe they’ve become best friends. It kills me and makes me feel he was cheating all along and he left me for her even though I loved him so much :(

What do you think? Do you think he was actually cheating or they’re just friends?
I know it’s kinda weird to ask but I just need your opinions.

Open Question: Battery not approved/Disconnected battery in Samsung Gem?
Okay, I just took my phone into US. Cellular today, reset the whole phone, had everything deleted, and they gave me a new battery. Now my phone won’t charge, and when I try to charge it when the phone is on it says “This is not an approved battery. Please use the approved battery” and when I turn the phone off and try to charge it my phone says “Battery Disconnected”. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with it, but I need to charge my phone! What do I do?!? How can I fix it?

Open Question: My mother distributes money between me and my brothers sporadically, $10,000.00 to $20,000. 00?
I use this money to pay off debts that I have incurred throughout the year or years between. Credit cards, notes, appliances etc. Things that I have purchased for our family. I work. I pay for groceries, cell phones, and misc. thing for myself and our grown children and all of Christmas and birthdays. My husband pays for ALL big ticket items. My mom recently gave me another $10,000. and I have $6000.debt. My husband says I should give the money to him this time and that I am selfish and shouldn’t charge or purchase so much stuff.. When she gives it to me she says its to make my life easy and to buy myself something like a new car. (mine is 10 years old and I paid for it ) What do you think? Should I give it to him? Open Question: Should I accept a plea bargain OR go to trial?

Anyway, my mom has been verbally and physically abusive most of my life.For 30 yrs, I mostly “bottled it all up” and never fought back, verbally or physically, until the past year.Just moved into house (this is in Arizona, if that matters legally) and Ive felt like she had been bullying me MORE since moving in as she had always smugly said its “her house, her regime” call the police any time she wants to kick me out because she’s “sick and tired” of taking care of me for 31+ years (and I totally sympathize with that. I don’t want her to either, but at the same time, I didn’t choose the hand I was dealt in life.Anyway FINALLY GETTING TO MY INCIDENT AND QUESTION…

That night she was in “nitpicky”, “adult bully” mode again. I could tell she was just “itching” for a fight & got what she wanted. She pushed me & pulled my hair so I finally pushed her back.When we sat at dinner table she said cruel things& started going into a literal SCREAMING RAGE!When she goes in to her screaming rages – and I literally mean “rages”; I am NOT exaggerating, I feel like going insane & out of my mind. This is how I felt then and so many other times before. (Trying to calm her down by asking her to “please stop & let’s just TALK about this” or “take a ‘breather’ and come back to it later”) only makes her scream LOUDER.Going to my room doesn’t work because she will pick the door & come after me again.I am taking 100% accountability for what I did next; when she went into a her SCREAMING RAGE again I felt so “outside myself”&crazy that I threw milk on her&then threw the glass in the opposite direction onto the wall it wouldn’t hit her.She then called police as she has always (I felt, dangled over my head like a carrot and used as emotional blackmail since I was 18) and I decided I didn’t want to live anymore, but NOT because of one argument; a culmination of many things COMPOUNDING together but this latest “blow-up” (out of MANY recent ones) just made me want to end it all because I felt nothing would ever change.I went into my room, got a gun & told her I was killing myself (I have had two prior suicide attempts, both unrelated to guns). (If this matters at all, I had bought guns, in the first place because of a guy who tried to bust down the apartment door when we first moved here).I was on my bed, deciding which gun to use to kill myself with (I had 3) and put a tiny .32 mousegun in my pocket, which weighs less than a pound. Then I decided to just take pills instead because I did not want ruin her brand new house.Before I had a chance to do that a policeman called me on the phone and tried to talk me out of suicide.He told me to just come outside and my me, mom, and some officers would talk and come to a resolution together. I did not really believe him, but I had a tiny ounce of hope that he was telling the truth and since that was what I REALLY WANTED – to just come to a resolution, I complied. He told me to come downstairs unarmed, except my cell phone (since we we’re talking on it), so I did, forgetting about the gun in my robe pocket the whole time, because I was so completely “taken in” by and in embroiled in the conversation with him, that seemed like an hour, that I didn’t even think about it. I came outside & saw a SWAT team, an armory truck, and all kinds of guns pointed at me, when I NEVER threatened to hurt anyone other than myself. That terrified me so I turned around and tried to run back in the house & hi&de. When I did that, SWAT proceeded to run after me and threw me down on the ground so hard, they broke my rib and almost my left wrist when I was RUNNING AWAY (I am 80 lbs, 5’2”; I do not think that was necessary, especially when I never threatened them and was running AWAY from them). I NEVER threatened anyone except for MYSELF. They then put me in cuffs and found the gun I had forgotten I had in my pocket, which – obviously – did not look good. They then put me in a police car and drove me to the Psych ER, which discharged me after two days because they deemed me as not a threat to anyone else & no longer a threat to myself. judge charged me with assault (probably for pushing my mom back), domestic violence (probably for the same thing and throwing the glass against the wall) and disorderly conduct. Therefore, I have 3 misdeanors total.

My mom told me that they said that if I plead guilty they would offer me a plea bargain and drop both the assault and DV charges against me and convict me of disorderly conduct only. I know of plea bargains from tv, but this is reality
During the night this happend, she was in “nitpicky”, “adult bully” mode again. I could tell she was just “itching” for a fight, and, if so, she got what she wanted. She pushed me and pulled my hair in front of the washer/dryer and so I finally pushed her back. When we sat down at the dinner table, she said something so unkind to me and started going into a literal SCREAMING RAGE. When she goes in to her screaming rages – and I literally mean “rages”; I am NOT exaggerating, I literally feel as though I am going insane and going out of my mind. This is how I felt then and so many other times before. (Trying to calm her down (by asking her to “please stop and let’s just TALK about this” or “take a ‘breather’ and come back to it later”) only makes her scream LOUDER. Retreating to my room doesn’t work because she will pick the lock on the door and come after me and “go at it again”. Since I don’t know many people very well in this state, there is also no one’s house I can go to to get away

Open Question: REALLY thin, basic used Verizon phone?
I currently don’t have a cell phone, so my mother has insisted on getting me one so she can reach me on it. I do NOT want to sign a contract right now, so I’m planning to buy something cheap that’s used. It doesn’t have to be new, or have any features; in fact, I would prefer that all it did was place calls, for the sake of simplicity. I have an iPod touch I carry for other purposes (including SMS and such), and a data plan is simply not an option right now.

For reference, The F3c MOTOFONE would have been ideal; unfortunately, they seem quite rare, and I’m not sure that even with it being the CDMA version, it would work anyway. Right now, the best option has been an old SLVR L7. Does anyone have an even thinner, smaller suggestion?

I also considered the RAZR V3c, but I’d really rather not resort to a flip phone, or a slider for that matter.

Remember, it HAS to be a Verizon phone. No GSM phones will do. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Sorry John, I was looking for VERIZON phones, not VIRGIN phones. And I’m not looking for a smartphone, as a data plan is not an option.

Open Question: how did the 3 companies that dominated the landline market come to dominate the cellphone market?
Its crazy because before cellphones were around there was these 3 companies (Sprint/Verizon/at&t) if you got a land line bill it was probably from one of those 3. 10-15 years ago when the cellphone market was exploding we had a lot of smaller companies. I can tell you that I had a contract with a local company called cellular one which was bought out by alltel (another extinct company) and when that was bought out I was a verizon customer wondering what the heck happened. Even T mobile which can really be considered the last cellphone exclusive company in the big 4 might be bought out by att. if you think about it at&t which was first called Bell telephone company was named after the inventor of the phone in the 1800s, amazing how long they are holding on. what gave these traditional landline companies an edge over their competition?

I’ve been attempting research on prepaid cell phones for a long time, and none of the resources I have used have given me the information I want. Does anyone know if there is a Pre-paid cell phone plan that offers a cell phone that has (In order of importance)

Open Question: Lanlord isn’t returning calls about broken garbage disposal…?
Our garbage disposal is broken. I called the landlord about it weeks ago. He said that he wanted to come out and look at it before he hired a plumber. At the time, it was only leaking. Now the disposal won’t run. We can’t use that side of the sink because it leaks water. When the dishwasher runs, water backs up into the sink and slowly drains. We have a bucket under the sink to catch water. Our apartment has a sewer odor, and I believe that it’s coming from under the sink.

When I called the landlord weeks ago he said that he wanted to look at it first and see if he could fix it himself. He said that he would call and come out that weekend. I don’t have any missed calls from him. I have called him a few times a week. I have left at least four messages. I even got his wife’s cell phone number from one of the other tenants in the building. Their son lives in this building and said that they get off work at 5:00.

My father-in-law offered to buy us a new disposal if we pay him back. My husband wants to leave the landlord a message saying that if we don’t hear from soon that we’re going to get a new disposal and deduct it from our rent. I don’t think that will go over well with the landlord. What if we get the new disposal and still have issues? But what other option do we have to get this resolved?

Open Question: TomTom for iPhone Help needed over here!!?
My wife and I are traveling to Mar del Plata, Argentina pretty soon, I haveinstalled the TomTom Argentina and Uruguay on my iPhone 4, and I’m excited because I’ve been using it in the demo mode and it is very well detailed. So, my question is:
Will the GPS work on my phone without cellular data? I have AT&T and I’m not sure what the GPS app will need to work. To make a call will cost me about USD $2.50 per minute and data will cost me about USD $20/MB!! so I need to know if I can use the TomTom GPS app in Airplane mode, or in some other mode that will not consume any sort of data that would make me want to kill myself after looking at the phone bill once I’m back home. So any information about this matter will be helpful.

Open Question: Does Airplane Mode restrict all cellular data usage?
I’m using an iPhone 4 and I’m about 5 days away from my billing period, but it says I’ve used about 90% of my data (so around 1800 of my 2042 MB) and right now I’m at about 1880.2 and I’m really worried about going over my data plan. I’ve been setting my phone into Airplane Mode as soon as i saw that i was exceeding. I was just wondering if that does make the data completely shut off in which all I need to do is keep in in that mode so i won’t go over 2042MB, or if this isn’t a good method what other method should I use in order to make it so that I won’t go over the data limit (i.e turning the phone off itself).

Open Question: The best idea for my sister’s cell phone for 150-170$?
My sister’s 15 and she’s got a birthday very soon. My parents and I want to make a present and buy her a mobile phone. She’s killed Samusng Corby not much ago and uses my old Nokia now. Cell phone industry is so big that if I start searching now I won’t finish till her next birthday so I wanted to hear a quick advice from you. The only thing she needs now is a fast working phone with Wireless. She spends The whole day messaging or chatting with friends and listening to music while in the street or at home. In a word she uses the phone very hard and I don’t remember anything working fast in her hands. For sure She’ll need Bluetooth , mp3 and all the things like that. Phone must be durable and reliable and FAST! or otherwise she’ll kill it soon. thanks in advance. any offer kindly accepted.

Open Question: California Cell Phone laws: Would using a “Moshi Moshi Pop phone” get me a ticket?
This question is for anyone who is either a California law enforcer, or have knowledge on California state rules.

My mom works on the road and needs to use her phone at all times. She’s gotten pulled over for cell phone use, and I wanted to buy this for her. She has bluetooth headsets as well, but they’re not comfortable and it gets lost easily.

So would this work as a replacement? Or can she still be ticketed for this?
This plugs in directly to the 3.5mm jack that comes standard on all smart phones. If it’s plugged in before she starts driving, would this be legal? There is also a button on the phone that can pick up and hang up calls.

Work, she has to do on the road because it’s dealing with customers.

Open Question: Should I allow my step-daughter to call her mom?
Long story short, my sd was brought her 12/2011 ro live with her father and I because of her behavior. Her mother couldnt deal with it, and the school she was goin to had banned her and she was set up to go to alternative school. Instead mom withdrew her and brougt her here to another state 2 hours away. She also wrote father out an paper giving him partial custody, to put her in school, government assistance, and it also stated he wouldnt have any cs obligation while in his care. Father typed me up a farm giving me rights to take sd to appointments and such in cases where he couldnt be present. Well sd has did nuttin but disrespect me since she been here. There has been so much drama late with her bio-mom that it has caused me to be stressed have anxiety, and some depression. This whole time I have only been here to help sd. This is technically my home because her father moved in with me about a year before sd got here. We only have cell phones, which the main on is is, that i bought and the only reason it is workin this month is because I payed the bill. Well her mother keeps callin but i dont want her to use my resources to talk to her daughter because she is allowing her daughter to treat me this way, she says I have nuttin to do with her, when its my roof she is under, i cook for her, wash her clothing, make sure she has essentials, go to the school everytime theres a problem and has been the one to have to take her to school everyday because she is in ISS an sign her in. I think in the last few weeks I have built up alot of hatred for her mother. My sd is on punishment for the last time she got put in ISS and recently out of school suspension. One of her punishment was that she couldnt have a cell, well when she came back from spring break with her mom, mom had gave her another cell that we wasnt pose to know she had. But she didnt plan well because she didnt send a charger so its dead. So because of these reasons I dont feel i should allow her to use my phone to talk to her mother specailly if her father isnt around! I dont think she should talk to anyone not even her while on punishment. Mom has made many threats to send police to house because no one is answerin or to come and get sd.. She is ruinin my life! I just want to know what you think of the situation? Can she use this against us in court, because we did file for custody of sd? I feel like she will be a better child is bio mom cant interfere. that lady loves drama, she calls cursing and everything, anyway what do you guys think?
NO!! He didnt divorce her mom they or never married. And he didnt leave her to be with me either, because she has 3 younger siblings on her father side, dat arent with her mother. So thats not it. Her mother and father hasnt been together for at least 10 years!!! She has been diagnosed ADHD & ODD!!! But biomom have some mental issues also.
And no she wasnt made to come down here, she had visited thanksgiving break and liked it, made friends and all. Her coming down here was something her mother and her came up with to beat the court order for her to attend alternative school which she didnt have to attend when she got here, she just got ISS and had to earn her classes back. And its not about her using my resources, she was fine the first couple of months, but its the fact that its my house, there are rules here in my house, and her mother snuck her a phone when she wasnt pose to have one, and still dont she is on punishment for her behavior until she gets out off ISS which is pose to be wednesday!! I love my stepdaughter, and had no problem with her mother, but it hurts me to see that mom is route cause of sd behavior, my sd would be good when there is no contact with mom then soon as she talks to her or some her whole mood/attitude changes! And it hurts me because I am tryna help her, I have 3 other kids that I have cus
We provid a phone for her, iwe are together so we split bills….its been hard for him to work and make money because of the way my stepdaughter behaves , he constantly gets phone calls from school and etc. while at work. I am not sayin i have a problem with her talkin to mother just a few reasons why at this point dont feel like i should have to let her use our phone to do it. 1)she only wanna call mother when things arent goin her way, and instead of mother being on one accord with us, she is against us and makes my sd feel like what we do or say is unfair. 2) sd is on punishment and one of her rules while on punishment is she didnt have access to her cell, well she went to visit her mother on spring break while on punishment, mother led us to belive she was takin sd phone because she didnt have access to it, well come to find out mother had provided her with another phone to call.text her on, so i feel by doin that mother thought sd thst she doesnt have to abid by our rules, and it

I bought an unlocked iPhone thru Appstore online months ago. I got a prepaid plan. I tried to buy data packages but It didn’t work at first, but then it allowed me to buy the data packages.
