Open Question: If I purchase a used smartphone, can I activate it without a data plan?
Sooo…I have U.S. Cellular as my cellular plan, just a basic family plan (NO DATA) with the rest of my family, etc. but my phone crapped out and I was wondering; If I were to buy a used smartphone off of, say, eBay, and activate it over the phone, would I be able to use it with my current contract? Or does it require a data plan to be used, even if activated this way?

Open Question: Why does IMessage use 3G when IPhone 3GS and other phones was called text message and it was apart of my plan?
I am unsure why Iphone 4S uses a data plan for text messages calling them IMessages now. It is quite frustrating that I have to pay for texts on my plan and then have to use my dataplan as well. If you turn off the Cellular Data on the phone to save battery power you can’t even receive texts. Any suggestions?

Voting Question: Can US cellular turn off my WiFi connectivity from not paying the bill?
I haven’t been able to afford my phone bill, but I want to use my wifi on it. I’m able to connect to the router, and I get a signal from it, but I’m unable to use the browser, market, or anything like that. I was able to before, but as of yesterday, its been buggy, but now it won’t connect at all.

Open Question: Do Iphones use credit? Please answer these 5 questions +..?
Hi.

I have recently purchased an Iphone 4 on a plan

I am very worried about the IPhone using credit such as Internet, Data etc.
I am very stressed and wondering if anyone can help me.

I do not use YOUTUBE, FACEBOOK, EMAIL, ITUNES, STOCKS, WIFI, WEATHER ETC ON MY PHONE.

Or App store or anything, I only use things on my computer.

I downloaded a few apps, such as a camera one, 3 games, flashlight and another.

I disabled Cellular data and 3G

I have no idea what these two are, only they are used for the internet.

So in short questions can anyone answer these.

1. What are these two and what is data roaming and stuff? (What do they do for the phone except internet)
2. Do they use credit if enabled?
3. What apps to keep away from
4. I am fairly use to these phones so any tips will help me in the settings and other.
5. I have restricted youtube and safari

Open Question: Verizon’s IN calling on a prepaid cell?
My brother lives 100+ miles away and we like to keep in touch. Currently, I’m using a simple Tracfone for all my cellular needs which are incredibly small lol. However, at 1 unit per minute, I would rather not burn through my Tracfone minutes since it really only costs me $5 a month for service.

He currently has a Verizon plan and we’ve been wondering if Verizon’s “IN calling” works with Verizon prepaid phones? This would save me a ton of money if it were true but I don’t want to buy a Verizon phone and then Verizon minutes to find out it’s not.

Personal experience is preferred but all help is appreciated. Thank you!

Open Question: any other explanation for what just happened?
my boyfriend and I have been together for almost 6 months. we used to know each other a year before that and things were great. when we started dating, things remained to be great, we truly loved each others, we promised each other things we wouldn’t break and so on. today, i was on my laptop and decided to track my boyfriend through his icloud account. as i did that, his location was somewhere specific and as i called him to ask him where he is and to make sure, he said he’s home. i got really confused and decided to let it go and hung up. i texted his sister instead to clear up my mind from unnecessary thoughts. however, she told me he left the house about half an hour ago. so i called my boyfriend again and he screamed at me saying that he’s home, and that he’d call me from his sister’s phone just so i’d make sure (he sounded confident). i waited 5 minutes and while waiting, i decided to check his location again. however this time, the pin locator was moving towards the direction of his house and stopped somewhere. he called me screaming and blaming me for not trusting him. i couldnt take some online locator on my boyfriend’s words. so i told him thats what showed on your icloud yet i apologized however tension had been created between us. after that, i decided again to locate him but the last location was still there. not moving. i googled this and found out that this could be due to the fact that there is no wireless connection which stops the locator from working and keeps recording the last location. (so i’ve concluded that he turned off his cellular data). i waited for 15 minutes and all of a sudden it shows that he’s home. he calls me and forced me to feel bad and i kept apologizing.
could this whole thing have an explanation? could the icloud locator be wrong?? ohh not to forget, his sister texted me back later telling me he is taking a bath. (this led me to think that he texted his sister telling her to tell me that he’s in the washroom, which makes absolutely no sense).
what am i supposed to do now? should i forget about the whole thing? should i play some sort of a game with him acting like am all cool while i believe i know he was somewhere he lied about?

Open Question: I can’t call or text unless 3g is turned on ?
For you jailbreaking/unlocking gurus out there.. I jailbroke and successfully unlocked my iphone 3gs running on ios 5.0.1 using absinthe to jailbreak and using ultrasnow through cydia to unlock.

Basically the problem is, if 3g is turned off in my settings, then I cannot use it to make calls or text. It will say “Searching” or “no service” in the status bar. But if i turn on 3g, then I have service and it recognizes the carrier and I can make calls and receive texts.

But having 3g on all the time drains my battery insanely rapidly, and I fear it might impact my cellphone bill somehow (even though in my settings I have Cellular Data turned off).

Any ideas? I shouldn’t have to be constantly on 3g for me to use the phone right?

Open Question: Is there any websites/guides for getting rid of cable TV and getting all shows from broadband internet?
I’m sick of huge cable TV bills that continually creep higher and higher.

Likely to get rid of conventional phone too and just go 100% cellular.

I’m very very hurt, and i just don’t understand. Last time i talked to her she seemed pretty happy i called. Now i call her today it goes straight to this msg saying msg dg21 or 22 i forgot welcome to cellular 1 the number you have called is temporaily disconnected, then when i called few minutes later it said msg dg22 the number you have called is no longer in service. I dont understand i thought atleast we were friends, she use to always look forward to seeing me. No shes not my girlfriend but i like her. I dont call her non stop or text her non stop or leave crazy voice mails. I make sure i give her space between i call her. What did i do to drive her to block my number??? I really really dont understand. When i tried calling on the land line, she doesnt know that number, when i called it rang once then i hung up. Can you help me out here, if she didnt want to talk i can see her just telling me that or just not answering, but blocking my number?? Like i said i never texted or called her too much, she lives far away to, but last time we spoke she said her phone was messing up. I can not picture going threw the trouble of blocking me.

Open Question: iPhone 3 on PAYG O2 eats my credit?
I keep getting a message pop up everyday which basically says I’ve used £1 of credit and will not be charged again today for internet usage.

I want to set the phone so that it doesn’t eat my credit, and I can only access internet apps (such as eBay, Facebook) when I am at home, where I have wireless.

Even when I don’t access any web sites/apps, I get this message – maybe because my email is linked to the phone perhaps?

I’m not gadget literate so could do with any help that is easy for me to understand pretty please

Thanks for reading and any advice given, oh one more thing, my Cellular Data Network is set up as PAYG which confuses me even more :-/

Open Question: How to restate a router? (NETGEAR)?
My IPhone isn’t connecting to Internet.
It says it is on wifi, but when I go on safari It says I need cellular data. I turn cellular data on and a blue circle appears where my wifi symbol just was. I can get on Internet through cellular data, but I am scared incase this is costing money?
I have restarted my phone, done all of it.
I am with O2.
Should I restart my router? (all my other devices connect to wifi, so is it actually a problem with the router? Should I keep using the circle? Should I use 3G?

Open Question: my iphone 4 is DEAD! help me please?
so i played around on my iphone 4 several times last night and then all the sudden (i believe it was after midnight) it kept lighting up and showing a message that said something like “this accessory is not optimized for this phone and your cellular signal may be weakened” and the only thing you could do was say dismiss or it would just go away after a few seconds. i could still do things on it but every few minutes that message would pop up and when i wasn’t using the phone the message would pop up every few minutes illuminating my phone.
when i got home i decided to just turn it off.
i know that i did in deed turn it off and then i left the room and came back a few minutes later and the screen was lit up with that message again. i AGAIN turned off my phone and this time it stayed off.
today i turned it back on and the message showed up again but i could still use the phone. then i noticed my ringer would not turn up or down. i went to my settings and adjusted it and have my sister call to make sure i could hear it. i could but i wanted it louder so i adjusted it again and she called back again and this time it didn’t even show that she was calling. and then it simply wouldn’t work at all!!! its just black and i can’t get it to turn on or anything. i thought oh maybe the battery died since it kept lighting up for who knows how long to show that message so i plugged it in and it STILL won’t turn on or do anything.
what could be wrong with my phone?
calling verizon is not gonna help cuz they specifically told me when i bought the phone that once it lef the store i could not bring it back to them for any reason cuz apple’s contract with verizon would not allow any of their employees to try to fix it or even just look at it so see if they could figure out what was wrong.
i don’t think the problem has anything to do with VERIZON cuz everybody else’s phones on the same plan are working just fine.
it sucks that i can’t just take the battery out and put it back in to see if anything happens. my sister and dad tried to say you could but i warned them you can’t and after looking at it for themselves they admitted i was right.
basically i have to take it to an apple store.
my sister’s friend had to get 3 new iphone 4 cuz hers just stopped working too.
i guess when i can get a new phone i’ll be going with droid
lets hope i get a new phone with no problems since clearly this is nothing i did to it.

Okay, so I am a current customer of U.S. Cellular. I currently have a blackberry but I am able to upgrade. Can I buy a phone off their website and still use my upgrade discount online?

I have also been wondering if I can buy a U.S. Cellular phone off of Ebay and switch my account information and line to that phone instead of the one I have now?

If someone could please help me!!

Open Question: If I were to get an iPhone 4s, what’s the best way for me to use it in Europe?
Hey folks, I’m currently a 2nd year college student and I am planning on studying abroad in Denmark for a year during the 2012/2013 school year with a potential slight break in the middle over the Christmas holiday. I would be leaving in August of 2012. I am under contract with Verizon until October of 2013. The rates for using a Verizon phone in Europe for an extended period of time are super expensive and the rep basically told me never to use an American phone in Europe because of the cost.

Now here are the few questions that I have:

1) What is the easiest way to be able to use the iPhone 4s I would buy here while I’m in Europe?
2) How much would a European cellular plan cost me for said iPhone 4s?

Basically I’m asking if I can buy an unlocked iPhone 4s in the States and take it to Europe to activate a plan on it and what the prices would maybe look like if that were the case. Would jailbreaking the iPhone 4s be the way to do it, or do I just buy a new phone with a contract in Europe?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Open Question: Cellular devices any ideas?
After 3 years my LG voyager died and I have to get a new phone it’s kind of frustrating bc a our local store if you don’t get a data plan (which I cannot afford) you have the option of two other phones. Here’s what I like in a phone…
* Good qwerty keyboard, preferably not touch bc I never used touch but if Anyone thinks a touch is good I might consider it. Good texting device is a must
* a touch screen of some sort (sort of like the cosmos or voyager)
*a good quality camera w/ video
* not an obnoxiously big size, something I can slip into a pocket. As much as I LOVED my voyager that is the one thing I would change was possibly make it just a tad smaller
*NOT A FLIP PHONE!!

If anyone could let me know the names of any phones that meet some/most of these qualities I would GREATLY appreciate it!! short descriptions and links are always good! Thanks soooo much!!

Open Question: What electronic equipment do high tech Professional thieves use to beat alarm systems?
In the movies there is always the computer whiz who taps into the phone lines or whatever to bypass or confuse say A monitoring service into believing all is well. I have watched A few episodes of masterminds, and apparently it can be done in real life by A select few, but I don’t expect to many people to understand the truth of what is happening. Me and my girl are always trying to debunk or figure out the intricacies of the heists, but does anyone have even A remote idea of the equipment or what they are doing. My best guess is they tap into the line with an oscilloscope and then synthesize it with some type of signal generator before breaking the phone or whatever connection. After that what about burst radio or cellular backup? I don’t mean simple residential alarms but banks and such. Real heist kind. I bet it is A case of if you have to ask you are not capable of understanding. A master criminal probably has to figure it out themselves and then they are the only ones who know. Does anyone have A real idea?
