So my mom had a 3g with AT&T for a 2 year contract. We have all upgraded our phones recently at the same time. Am i able to use her iphone 3gs as a phone without eing charged extra for using a smartphone? I have been using the iphone recently and i made some adjustments. Open Question: why it seems so difficult to find covers for mobile/cellular phones that has a cover over the KEYPAD?
have seen plenty that they sell that covers the outer shell of the phone..but why not the keypad..where sweat seeps into the electronics and ruins the phone within 6 months to 1 year ,,especially if work outside in the heat and need to use the phone.

Open Question: Battery not approved/Disconnected battery in Samsung Gem?
Okay, I just took my phone into US. Cellular today, reset the whole phone, had everything deleted, and they gave me a new battery. Now my phone won’t charge, and when I try to charge it when the phone is on it says “This is not an approved battery. Please use the approved battery” and when I turn the phone off and try to charge it my phone says “Battery Disconnected”. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with it, but I need to charge my phone! What do I do?!? How can I fix it?

Open Question: TomTom for iPhone Help needed over here!!?
My wife and I are traveling to Mar del Plata, Argentina pretty soon, I haveinstalled the TomTom Argentina and Uruguay on my iPhone 4, and I’m excited because I’ve been using it in the demo mode and it is very well detailed. So, my question is:
Will the GPS work on my phone without cellular data? I have AT&T and I’m not sure what the GPS app will need to work. To make a call will cost me about USD $2.50 per minute and data will cost me about USD $20/MB!! so I need to know if I can use the TomTom GPS app in Airplane mode, or in some other mode that will not consume any sort of data that would make me want to kill myself after looking at the phone bill once I’m back home. So any information about this matter will be helpful.

Open Question: Does Airplane Mode restrict all cellular data usage?
I’m using an iPhone 4 and I’m about 5 days away from my billing period, but it says I’ve used about 90% of my data (so around 1800 of my 2042 MB) and right now I’m at about 1880.2 and I’m really worried about going over my data plan. I’ve been setting my phone into Airplane Mode as soon as i saw that i was exceeding. I was just wondering if that does make the data completely shut off in which all I need to do is keep in in that mode so i won’t go over 2042MB, or if this isn’t a good method what other method should I use in order to make it so that I won’t go over the data limit (i.e turning the phone off itself).

Open Question: Wal Mart’s Straight Talk Phone Plans?
We’d like to get a phone for our daughter, something that gives her unlimited texting and a few talk minutes (because we want to talk, not text, with her). Don’t want a contract. I’ve kind of looked at these Straight Talk plans at Wal Mart. Some phones have the “full keyboard” and it seems like you can set up to reload automatically. Anyone have these plans to say if they’re good or bad?

Also, I see other plans, like Virgin Mobile but I’m getting lost in all their charging details. Also Boost Mobile seems nice because you can start saving $5/month for every 6 on-time payments you make. So I assume you get a bill in the mail instead of having to auto reload?

Right now I am with Consumer Cellular. I pay $15/month for 250 minutes, which I never ever use. I don’t text, I just use the phone when I need to, which isn’t much. I have no contract and get a bill in the mail every month. Seems with these other plans you have to reload your account every 30 days or your service will stop. Not a biggie once you get used to it, but I’m mostly just looking for the best cheapest and BEST QUALITY plan for my daughter. She’ll 99% text but needs a few talking minutes to speak with her parents.

Anything good or bad to say about customer service, quality or coverage areas of any of these plans?

Open Question: Is there a noticeable difference between Super Amoled Plus and qHD cell phone screens?
I am using a Samsung Galaxy S2, Epic 4G Touch, and my friend is using the Motorola Photon. As I understand, the former uses Super Amoled Plus screen technology while the latter uses qHD pentile screen technology. Now, I’ve read that Super Amoled plus has an advantage over most other screens in that it actually uses more subpixels in each individual pixel than other phone screens, giving it more accurate color representation and a seemingly higher resolution, despite the fact that its resolution is not actually higher. I myself have not had the time to actually observe my friends cell phone, or any phones using qHD pentile technology, for that matter. So I’m curious as to whether or not the increased amount of subpixels in the Amoled Plus display helps it maintain its place in the screen technology hierarchy despite the higher amount of pixels in most other qHD displays. Does qHD really make such a positive and noticeable difference in clarity and color that it leaves S.A.P. in the dust? Or is it a newer technology that left out some of the best features of its predecessors? Before the answers begin rolling in (assuming they do lol) I would like to give a scenario. Let’s take a 4.5″ cellular device using Super Amoled Plus technology, and put it up against a 4.5″ cellular device using qHD pentile technology. The former while be using a 480×800 screen resolution, while the latter will be using, as qHD suggests, a 540×900 screen resolution. Which will seem clearer? Which will seem more colorful? Or will they both just kind of fall next to each other in the cell phone screen technology hierarchy? Any and all help will be appreciated greatly. Thank you

Resolved Question: Have you ever heard of Nichalous Tessla? He was a scientist/inventor from the late 1800s and early 1900s…..?
He was responsible for AC/DC lighting, the lights we use now and literally, the technology that is employed for cellular phones. He did all of this back in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He has things that are just being employed now, scientifically. I may be a little off on some of this but look him up. VEry interesting.

Open Question: I got an email from someone’s work via iPhone. Is the IP their home’s? iPhone’s? or their employer’s location?
Sorry if this is a dumb Q but I am not familiar at all with how iPhones work at all (or any cellular service for that matter).
My friend emailed me from work using her iPhone in the UK. When I find the sender’s IP, will that be my friend’s home IP where the iPhone is billled to? Her phone’s built in 3G IP? or the location where she emails me from (using her cell) meaning her employer’s?

ETA: ok since someone starred this means someone is also interested in the answer. This is what I found: I finally got her IP sent from her iPhone and it’s not the same one as sent from her computer at home. In fact, it’s way in a different town so I can only assume it’s her employer’s IP. Unless it’s a 3G IP but it’s definitely not bill/home IP.

Anyone can provide any info here? Would be appreciated as long as it’s a legit and helpful answer.

Resolved Question: Cellphone chargers hurting phone or battery – Is it true?
I’ve been looking for a replacement charger online and Samsung sells them so expensively!! I have a Samsung Galaxy S II T989 (for T-mobile) and I read on a website that bad chargers not from the manufacturer or OEM can actually hurt/ruin your phone. However, it never explained how or why. Anyone know the reason or what can happen using a “bad charger”?
