Open Question: Why does IMessage use 3G when IPhone 3GS and other phones was called text message and it was apart of my plan?
I am unsure why Iphone 4S uses a data plan for text messages calling them IMessages now. It is quite frustrating that I have to pay for texts on my plan and then have to use my dataplan as well. If you turn off the Cellular Data on the phone to save battery power you can’t even receive texts. Any suggestions?

Open Question: Can US cellular turn off my WiFi connectivity from not paying the bill?
I haven’t been able to afford my phone bill, but I want to use my wifi on it. I’m able to connect to the router, and I get a signal from it, but I’m unable to use the browser, market, or anything like that. I was able to before, but as of yesterday, its been buggy, but now it won’t connect at all.

I currently have my At&t iPhone4, which is NOT unlocked, on an At&t GoPhone plan. I had it done at the At&t store. The represinitive put a new 3g micro sim in it and typed a few things into his computer. I pay $25 a month for their unlimited text and 250 anytime minutes. I am aware that I cannot use the data in the $50 unlimited GoPhone plan but….
   If I buy the $20 200mb data package will i be able to use my phone for small data usage??.. (since i’m buying a specific data package)  I could turn my cellular data on/off as needed from my settings menu so i do not plan on going over. I only plan to use the data for weather and google maps. I have wifi at my house for web browsing. I do not wish to jailbreak my iPhone. I am willing to change my apn if that is a posiblity. Any input will be greatly appreciated! Please help!

Open Question: I need information regarding the early history of cellular phone networks. (Early battles in setting up n/w)?
Specifically, I am looking for the details of how 2 phone companies clashed (one a government company and the other a private company) and the private company emerged victorious in setting up their cellular network. I don’t remember the name of the companies (if I did, I could run a google search)… I think these were British companies…

The story is that there was a race for setting up a mobile network and the government company seemed sure to win. The government company had loads of capital and also had access to all the big government buildings and land, so they could set up mobile towers there. The private company had little cash and practically no land anywhere. The situation was quite one-sided. Then the private company engineers worked out how best to optimise signal strength and connectivity by using the least number of towers placed strategically around the area and thus, they managed to set up their own mobile network and open it to the public much before (I think one month before) the government company. They captured almost the entire market. Cool story, huh?

I saw this on either National Geographic or Discovery or The History Channel (It wasn’t Animal planet, I am sure of that)… I saw it quite a few years back, so I don’t remember most of the names and all, but I am really interested in reading on the story now. If anyone can offer any help, I’ll be really grateful…

I’m sick of huge cable TV bills that continually creep higher and higher.

Likely to get rid of conventional phone too and just go 100% cellular.

Open Question: Help editing a paper for a scholarship application.?
What is the biggest challenge facing your generation today and what would you do to combat it?

My generation’s biggest challenge is its dependency on technology, which is also the root for many other problems we have. Computers have been commonplace since most of us were born. Growing up, we were constantly reminded that everyone had one, everyone used one, and those that did not were at a disadvantage. Since the advent of computers, technology has only gotten more and more sophisticated: cellular phones, iPods, Kindles, and iPads to name a few. This addiction has led to the degeneration of traditional socializing and we are worse for it. Gone are the days of people meeting for coffee, taking walks together or having dinner, they would much rather tweet, text or e-mail each other to exchange information. And as if that were not enough, when we are together we are all plugged in to our iPods and other similar devices so we do not even have to acknowledge each other’s existence outside of our electronics if we do not wish to. Many people these days often do not know how to hold a conversation face to face or even over the phone with someone they are “friends” with because they are not used to the medium of communication.
Technology dependency has also led to a decrease in the quality of our education. Do not misunderstand me; there are some uses for technology in this day and age that have given us a plethora of knowledge, after all, technology has greatly benefitted the science and medical fields, improving quality of life for people all around the world. Despite these benefits, however, students have an ever-growing library of answers at their finger tips, this is not always a good thing, students today do not understand how to use a book to find their answers, they simply search it and it is given to them instantly and they are left with no idea of what they just copied and pasted. This results in students passing but not learning anything, its false advertising both for both future schools and employers.
The easiest solution to this issue would be to make a more concerted effort to speak to one another and interact without our crutches (the iPhones, cellular phones and social media of the world). This would take care of the socially crippling aspect of the problem. Requiring students to use print resources as research and holding them accountable for their work, would greatly increase the likelihood of students “getting something out of” their years spent in school. I am confident that if any effort at all were made to reduce the frequency we use technology in our daily lives, my generation would be better off because of it.

Open Question: My iPhone’s 3G isn’t working.?
Hi, I recently purchased an iPhone4 from Verizon Wireless, and I noticed that my 3G wasn’t working and the only way for me to use safari was to use it via wifi. My phone says that the 3G is on and I go to Settings>General>Network and it says Cellular Data is on. I don’t know what could be wrong. Open Question: iPhone 3 on PAYG O2 eats my credit?
I keep getting a message pop up everyday which basically says I’ve used £1 of credit and will not be charged again today for internet usage.

I want to set the phone so that it doesn’t eat my credit, and I can only access internet apps (such as eBay, Facebook) when I am at home, where I have wireless.

Even when I don’t access any web sites/apps, I get this message – maybe because my email is linked to the phone perhaps?

I’m not gadget literate so could do with any help that is easy for me to understand pretty please

Thanks for reading and any advice given, oh one more thing, my Cellular Data Network is set up as PAYG which confuses me even more :-/

Open Question: Am I going to be charged for iMessages on the iPhone 4?
If I have turned off cellular roaming, voice roaming and data roaming on my iPhone 4 and am only using iMessages when I have a wifi connection, am i going to be charged for roaming? I only ask this because my phone still has roaming displayed in the upper left corner of the screen with bars where the verizon/carrier logo should be.

Open Question: Can I use an iPhone 3G for AT&T without purchasing a data plan if I turn “cellular data” off?
I just purchased an iPhone on eBay under the impression I could use it as a phone without buying a data plan if I just turned off the cellular data. However, when I asked an AT&T agent via the online chat support, the woman told me that once I inserted my sim into the phone, AT&T would select and charge me for a plan if I did not select one myself.
I’ve heard from several people that they will not charge if I turn cellular data off, but I’ve also heard from others that I will be charged. Does anyone have any experience with this matter?

Open Question: iPhone 4S help simcard help!!?
Ok, so im here in Hong Kong right now, and I plan to buy a 4S tomorrow, but my problem is, when i go back to the Philippines where im originally from, will my simcard still work? Or will i have to Jailbreak then Unlock the 4S for my PH simcard to work? Please i really need help on this before i buy the phone.

No worries on the micro sim, I have one, but the thingis im worried about the searching issues, will it be able to read my sun cellular simcard when i go back to the PH? Should i jailbreak then unlock it first so the sun cellular simcard can be used. Or will the iPhone work with ANY simcard be it from any country?

Open Question: Is there an iPhone 4 app that will do voice-to-text messaging without using cellular data?
I have an iPhone 4 and can’t upgrade to a 4S for a while. I have the cheapest data plan that AT&T offers (gay) so I can’t use alot of data. I’ve used dragon dictation before and it works great except that it uses cellular data and I only get 200 MB a month! If anyone can help me that would be greatly appreciated. Oh and my phone is jailbroken on iOS 5.0.1 just in case there’s something there. Thanks!

Open Question: What are some of the best Android phones out there?
Hi, guys!

I want to get an Android phone really badly. However, I don’t know much about smart phones. I’ve never had one. All I know is that almost everyone has an Android or iPhone. I’ve researched which one is better and I’ve come to the conclusion that the Android is better in terms of features, design, versatility, apps, etc.

I’m looking for an Android that:

- has an excellent camera and camcorder
- easy-to-use touch screen (not annoying)
- size: not too big or small, and not too fat or thin
- has a sleek design

I have U.S. Cellular if that helps as well. It doesn’t offer much when it comes to nice phones, I know that. I don’t think my parents will switch to Verizon Wireless or AT&T. =P

Does anyone also have any tips on searching for the best Android as well? What should I pay more attention towards?

I recently got the i4, with limited data plan. if i turn off wifi and turn on “cellular data” it’ll use my limited plan up, if i turn it off and use wifi, i’ll have unlimited access to the internet. Open Question: How come my 3G network is not working on my phone?
I have the Motorola Electrify and just recently the 3G icon at the top of my phone only lights up grey but should light up blue. Whenever I try to use any apps like Facebook or Twitter it won’t load. I’ve gone into settings and checked that my Wi-FI was checked, Open Network was checked. And Secure Network is checked. After all this the 3G icon at the top is still grey and it should be blue if its working. Whats going on? PLEASE HELP or i’m gunna have to go up and talk to US Cellular ugh!
I don’t look at porn on my phone lol…nice try.

Open Question: Poll-Should I let my apple ipad 2 run out of battery life before charging it or should I go ahead &?
My dad got me my first apple Ipad 2 and it cost $730 and it is my favorite electronic ever and I enjoy using it and stuff and my battery percentage is 21 percent and I am not sure if I should go ahead and charge it or wait till it is out of power and then wait a couple of hours before charging it,my dad doesn’t even have to pay a bill because he didn’t create a cellular data account,I only use the wifi we have to access internet on it.

I do have an iphone 4 that I have had since late February 2011 and I find that I use the phone more than I do the ipad,I have not even got a case or stand for the ipad.But I will get all of those.

Open Question: Can you just put your T-Mobile Microsim into an iPhone 4S and it will be unlocked?
If you have tried any of these steps:
Insert original carrier AT&T SIM card
Dial 611 for AT&T customer service hotline and drop the call
Turn on Airplane Mode
Take out AT&T SIM card
Insert T-Mobile SIM card
Make sure WiFi is off ( also tap on ‘Forget this Network” to make sure it doesn’t connect automatically later)
Switch off Airplane Mode and iPhone will search for network. This is followed by the Apple splash screen appearing.
Activation Required will be displayed on the screen
EDGE network will activate automatically — notice the ‘E’ on the top left corner of the screen
Wait for about 20-30 seconds and turn off the phone
Turn on iPhone and the same Activation Required screen will be displayed
When you see one signal bar, tap on Use Cellular Connection
Eject SIM card
Activation Required screen will be displayed the second time
Insert SIM card
Unlocked!

I was just wondering if this worked WITHOUT the Gevey Sim.
