Open Question: Can i use an iphone 3gs if…?
So my mom had a 3g with AT&T for a 2 year contract. We have all upgraded our phones recently at the same time. Am i able to use her iphone 3gs as a phone without eing charged extra for using a smartphone? I have been using the iphone recently and i made some adjustments. I have jailbroken this iphone and turned off the cellular data and the 3g. I an ok with only using wifi to use the internet. We have unlimited messaging and unlimited web. Am i able to use the iphone 3gs as a regular phone while my sim card is installed?

Open Question: help with conclusion?
Throughout history, many inventions have been made. Since the Industrial revolution in the late 1700s humankind has been developing in an exponential rate. Many inventions and innovations have been created that make society’s life better, and in my opinion the two that stand out the most are the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and the Cell phone.
The first invention that stands out the most is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. They were created by Harry Burnett Reese. He began producing “specially processed” peanut butter and Milk Chocolate in the 1920s. Back then, the candies were known only as peanut butter cups. Harry Burnett Reese was born in 1879 on a farm in Pennsylvania. Reese didn’t enjoy farming and worked at several different jobs before he eventually moved to Hershey, Pennsylvania in 1917 to begin his candy career. It was there that Reese was actually employed as a dairy worker for Milton S. Hershey, the founder of Hershey Foods Corporation, who inspired Reese to quit his dairy job and make his living in candy. He eventually left Hershey, PA and experimented with a few types of candy before he returned and focused on his peanut butter cups. During the 20s, Reese sold packaged peanut butter cups for use in candy assortments, and a decade later sold them for one cent each to the assortment line. To this day, they are still a very popular kind of candy bar. Consumers old and young continue to enjoy them.
The second invention that stands out a lot is the Cell phone. It was created by Martin Cooper. He was hired by Motorola in 1954, Mr. Cooper worked on developing portable products, like the first portable handheld police radio. Martin set up a base station in New York, with the first working prototype of a cellular telephone, the Motorola Dyna Tac. Himself, and the Motorola Company took this creation into the public. On April 3, 1973, at a public demonstration, he made the first phone call on a heavy thirty ounce cell phone. Martin had a vision for personal, wireless communication. Martin Cooper started the 10-year process of bringing the portable cell phone to market. Motorola introduced the 16-ounce “DynaTAC” phone into commercial service in 1983, with each phone costing the consumer $3,500. It took seven additional years before there were a million subscribers in the United States. Today, there are more cellular subscribers than wireline phone subscribers in the world, with mobile phones weighing as little as 3 ounces.

Open Question: How do I get Cellular Data Network if my iPhone 3GS isn’t jailbroken?
I have an iPhone 3GS that’s bearly a year old and it has worked great! I’ve had ZERO problems with it! Only recently when I try to send pictures it will not send them anymore. It keeps saying “Message Send Failure.” Whereas before it sent them through everytime! I’m always backing my phone up and updating it whenever updates come available so its software is pretty new, give or take 2 or 3 months. Now I’ve always heard that the only way an iPhone can send pictures is if you have 3G in your area. I don’t have 3G as I live in VERY rural area, which we are supposed to be getting it at the end of the year.(Fingers crossed!!) But, I’ve always been able to send pictures before without having 3G before. I’m not qute sure what it means, but there is an ‘E’ at the top of the screen on my iPhone. Maybe someone could tell me what that means. So I’ve been looking on the internet trying to find out why and everything I keep reading says something about going to my Setting, then to General, then to Network and turning Cellular Data Network on…Well I don’t have that option. All I have is Enable 3G, Cellular Data, Data Roaming and the Personal Hot Spot option. What do I do? Can that be fixed without having to jailbreak my phone? I’m not that savvy when it comes to all the techno stuff out there but I can follow along pretty good if the directions are clear. So if someone out there can help me with this I’d be very greatful! I know this is a pretty long question but I’m a very detailed person and I can’t help it sometimes! :-/ Anyway, other stuff I found googling info on this said something about Cydia or something like that. I’d really like to get my phone to start sending pics again and if at all possible if I can figure out how to jailbreak my iPhone and get the ability to use my iPhone as internet for my laptop that would be great! I’m always interested in more ideas and new things! Thanks!!

When you contacted the Talks-A-Lot Company, they were offering a monthly plan of $40 for 600 minutes and $0.35 for each minute exceeding the 600 minutes. In the Sunday paper you see an ad for the Chat-Away Company, which offers a monthly plan of $50 for 600 minutes and $0.10 for each minute exceeding the 600 minutes. How many minutes would you have to talk over and above the 600 minutes for the cost to be the same with both companies? What would be the equal cost?

Set up a linear system consisting of two equations. Assume you will talk for a minimum of 600 minutes. The first equation would be for the Talks-A-Lot Company. The total cost, y, equals the base fee plus cost per minute times the number of minutes exceeding 600 minutes. The second equation would be set up just like the first, only you need to use the information for the Chat-Away Company.

Solve the linear system using the substitution method. Please make sure to solve for both x and y. Show all work.

Answer the questions, using complete sentences.
How many minutes would you have to talk over and above the 600 minutes for the cost to be the same with both companies?
What would be the cost when the minutes are the same?

If you plan to talk for 1000 minutes, which company should you hire? Please show your total cost for both companies to prove your answer.

I’ve always had a regular phone because my mom payed my home before with my 3G iPhone and I went over by a little on the plan , I didn’t know which one I had though . she paid it and kicked me off since I was out of two years . my dad got me a iPhone 4 starting with him an then I got a regular phone from those prepaid little packages to use I just a iPhone 4 to keep a upgrade because one day I might get it activated . now is the time today I’m going to AT&T to get the 200MB plan for my iPhone 4 . I’m going to get a microsomes and everything all set up . I don’t use Internet all as much anymore and in responsible , but if I turn cellular data off in the settings and use it just when I need it , I won’t get notifications from other apps . problem is does it use a lot of data always checking the whether on the pull down bar and getting data from app . I don’t have a Facebook anymore due to personal reasons . just asking how much is 200MB ? And how to stay under and not go over on the bill , ever . or my phone will get shut off .

I am going to nursing school in the fall and am planning to get an iPad mainly for the sake of school. Is the iPad with a cellular network really worth the extra money? I was going to use it alongside a regular HP laptop and my iPhone 4s. I am thinking that the school and hospital will have all the wifi I need but I don’t know how convenient it’d be if I were to bring it other places. Open Question: Phone dropped in bath?): ?
So I have a Samsung touch from U.S. cellular and I dropped my phone in the bath early this morning. I grabbed it out like not even 1O seconds it was in the water. So I jumped out of the tub and took the battery out and the back off. I used the blow dryer and it seemed to help. But I turned it on and there’s two little water spots. It seems to work fine. But now I have it in rice till overnight. But I haven’t told my mom. So will the rice work? I have until tomorrow morning at like 8:00 because thats when I leave for school. Will it work? Thanks. /:

Open Question: Wal Mart’s Straight Talk Phone Plans?
We’d like to get a phone for our daughter, something that gives her unlimited texting and a few talk minutes (because we want to talk, not text, with her). Don’t want a contract. I’ve kind of looked at these Straight Talk plans at Wal Mart. Some phones have the “full keyboard” and it seems like you can set up to reload automatically. Anyone have these plans to say if they’re good or bad?

Also, I see other plans, like Virgin Mobile but I’m getting lost in all their charging details. Also Boost Mobile seems nice because you can start saving $5/month for every 6 on-time payments you make. So I assume you get a bill in the mail instead of having to auto reload?

Right now I am with Consumer Cellular. I pay $15/month for 250 minutes, which I never ever use. I don’t text, I just use the phone when I need to, which isn’t much. I have no contract and get a bill in the mail every month. Seems with these other plans you have to reload your account every 30 days or your service will stop. Not a biggie once you get used to it, but I’m mostly just looking for the best cheapest and BEST QUALITY plan for my daughter. She’ll 99% text but needs a few talking minutes to speak with her parents.

Anything good or bad to say about customer service, quality or coverage areas of any of these plans?

Open Question: Buy Android Smartphone or expensive headphones?
I’ll be going on a few trips this summer and want to make some sort of bigger purchase to use while traveling. What I’m thinking is either an Android phone or some nice headphones (~$130) to replace my ear-buds. I have US Cellular too so not the best selection of 4G phones at the moment. One pro to waiting on the phone upgrade could be getting the iPhone 5 when it comes out and selling my iPod Touch 4th generation for it. Any suggestions for which way to go?

Open Question: Trouble with HTC Merge, Android Phone – The Display doesn’t come on half the time.?
Okie, so, first, to clarify again, the phone is an HTC Merge, running on Android.
The carrier is US Cellular.
Now, to the issue.

Half the time, when I try to hit the unlock / power key, only the hardware keys light up, and the actual display does not come on. It is still functioning, as the notifications still run, but for some reason, the display refuses to turn on. I try resetting it, holding the lock key, using the flip function, and so on, with very little avail.

Any help, save for saying, “Take it to your carrier! *Captain obvious*”, will be greatly appreciated.

Open Question: How can I increase my cellular signal at home without the use of an M-Cell?
I recently switched my cellular service from sprint to at&t. Upon signing the two-year contract with at&t I discovered that the cellular coverage I was receiving at my house was terrible. I immediately called At&t only to find out that there was nothing they could do for my cell phone reception. Eventually, after giving me the “new towers being added every day” speech she told me that they offer a hardware solution that might help assist with providing better reception. She then told me that this “so called” solution would require me to have active internet service. To my understanding the M-Cell was supposed to help replicate cellular the service that was out of range of my phone. After performing the installation of the M-Cell and adding the appropriate devices, I did notice that there was a definite increase in the signal my phone was receiving. The calls were crisp!! and the data was cooking!! Sadly after only 3-days of use i started noticing issues. My phone seemed to constantly be connecting and disconnecting from the M-Cell. I checked the unit itself and it seemed to be quite warm. After doing some research on the M-Cell I found out that it actually uses my internet bandwidth to send and receive calls and messages. Really??? are you serious the internet I pay for which is already overpriced is now functioning as the fail-safe for your company’s poor cell reception!!!??? After further research, I also found out that since I have iPhone’s, the increased network chatter from these devices in cooperation with the M-Cell would diminish the bandwidth available to devices on my home network. It was then that I realized I had been having an issue with the on demand function of my directv service, which just so happens to rely on internet for streaming video content. The first thing I could think of to test my current findings was to disconnect the M-Cell from my home network. Upon disconnection of the M-Cell I powered on my Tv and directv box and headed straight for the on demand. To my surprise this whole time the M-Cell had been causing the issue with my directv service. I am Sooo Pissed, I can’t believe it. Once again another service which I pay for was being interrupted to accommodate for the lack of cell phone service my provider was selling me. I’m no math wiz but this seems pretty simple, $60.00 for internet, $120.00 for directv, and another $256.00 to At&t. That’s $436.00 for all three, now i’m going to due my best to try find a rough cost for the times when I am unable to use my other services. I work an office job so from about 7:30am till 5:30 I’m either at work or commuting, that’s 10-hours a day 50-hours a week and 200-hours per month. There are 720-hours in a month roughly depending on the month, I averaged in 10-hours a day for sleeping eating and bathing. That’s 300-hours per month for sleeping and so on, that mean that there are 220-hours left to use my services at my home. Now lets figure out the service charges per month [$120.00/220-hours=$0.54 cents per hour for directv], [$60.00/200-hours=$0.30 cents per hour for Internet] and finally [$256.00/200-hours=$1.16 dollars per hour for my At&t service]. I think the numbers say it all, not only is the cellular service the most unreliable, it’s also the most expensive. Factor in the extra your paying for the other services you can’t use and you see who the really trying to get comfy in your pocket book. I really cant believe this, Is this how it ends?
Does anyone know how I can improve my cellular service in my home without paying for it monthly? I would like to restore the full potential of the other services I pay for without paying twice for diminished service. Please HELP ME!!!!

So I got an iPhone 4 and I didn’t tell AT&T I was using one so they eventually found out and charge me the $25 plan I believe. But that’s not the point. When they eventually found out I have been using the iPhone 4, my 3G turned on and suddenly I can have access to the internet wherever. So I’m just wondering if having my 3G on is going to charge me extra every month? Also, when I’m using my phone, sometimes a notice that say “turn cellular data on”. What does that mean? I have it turned off because I don’t know what it is and I am afraid it AT&T will charge me extra. Sorry, I’m extremely new to using iPhones so I’m not familiar with any of this. Please help! Open Question: Little bit confused about my iphone?
I just bought a Iphone 4 today, I’m getting freaked out because I checked the data usage. and it says Cellular network data and it says sent 3.0 KB and received is 6.0 KB. what does “Received and sent data” mean? When I bought the phone they said if i switch to wifi it wont use data and I’ve switched to wifi everytime I used the web. I have been using the pre-installed apps with wifi on though. Open Question: Jailbroken iPhone won’t recognize SIM?
I recently tried to jailbreak my iPhone 3GS baseband 5.16.05 with iPad baseband 6.15.00 using sn0wbreeze ISPW, I did a shift+restore on iTunes and the iPhone got stuck on a restoring screen (with the little bar.) I did a force reset and then the iPhone went into recovery mode I restored with iTunes (and no other software) but after I was done restoring it wouldn’t activate because it said the Activation Server was busy. It’s been “busy” all day and prior to the unlock I was able to activate and use the non-cellular features of the phone with my friend’s old expired AT&T sim card (it would say “No Service” at the top),but now neither that, the Tmobile SIM I want to use or no sim is recognized. I tried DFU mode and it doesn’t work either. Have I officially broken the phone? Is there a way that I can use my favorite phone with safari and the camera and everything else again and hopefully on TMOBILE prepaid?

Open Question: What is wrong with my phone?
My phone has been messing up lately and it is getting so bad I can’t hardly use it. Whenever I try to type a text message, it will send it after I only type a few letters. Also, if the keypad isn’t locked, it wil go to my call list and call people (it’s not because it’s in my pocket that it does this either, it will do this when it is just sitting on the table. If it IS locked, the screen will stay lit up instead of the light turning off after a few seconds like it’s supposed to. Yesterday I took the battery out for a little while and after that it worked fine all day, but I tried that this morning but it didn’t help. My phone is a US Cellular Samsung Messenger (I think) and I would appreciate if anyone can give me any ideas about what is wrong with it or how I can fix it.

Open Question: Why won’t my new iPhone run on Wifi?

Open Question: Channel wi-fi connection from iPhone to PC?
Ok so,

My university has a network which has a billing system incorporated into it which means we have to pay for the Internet we use by logging into the system (a page automatically pops up before the website you want to visit to allow you sign in except for the preset intranet pages).

However, my iPhone clearly has found an accidental glitch in the system that allows it to use the network without having to log in through this jet billing system. My questions are;

1) Can I channel this network through my phone onto my laptop somehow as my computer somehow (I know hotspotting causes the phone to revert to the cellular network)?

2) This obviously is a glitch and therefore a way around it exists, would this be applicable to my laptop and therefore how would I go about finding it?

And

3) Can someone explain to me how I could use PuTTy to perhaps get around the issue (I can further digress a few of the more technical details of the network if need be)?
